And GIVE LOCAL!  BreastCancerStories.org – a Portsmouth, NH 501(c)3 nonprofit organization – launched six years ago as an online resource for patients, friends and family members to stay connected online – no matter where they lived.  In 2011 the organization shifted gears to focus on the needs of LOCAL patients – thus My Breast Cancer Support was born.  Working with the hospitals in Portsmouth, Exeter, Dover, York, and the Cancer Care Center of York County in Sanford, ME, their new mission is to help take the day-to-day emotional stresses out of a local patient’s (and their family’s) life so they can focus their energy on getting WELL. They provide gas and grocery cards, household assistance (cleaning and repairs), travel scholarships to cancer conferences, new patient gift bags, books for patients and their family members, a means for local patients to connect online, a special family night out … and they will even fulfill a last wish.  Future plans for the organization include expanding their service offerings to help seacoast area patients no matter what type of cancer they are going through.
