Here are some books that we've found helpful in understanding the facets of the new economy. Please look for them at a locally owned, independent bookstore or your public library.

Deep Economy: The Wealth of Communities and the Durable Future by Bill McKibben (Henry Holt & Company, 2008)

The Small-Mart Revolution: How Local Businesses Are Beating the Global Competition by Michael Shuman (Berrett-Koehler Publishers, 2006)

Small Is Beautiful: Economics as if People Mattered by EF Shumaker (HarperCollins Publishers, 1989)

 




  • Seacoast Local is honored that co-founders Karen Marzloff and Tom Holbrook were named 2009 Citizens of the Year by the Greater Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce.

    Of course, the award was for all of Seacoast Local. In fact, the award officially says, "For extraordinary leadership and effort in creating the Seacoast Local Initiative which promotes and supports local businesses by encouraging people to 'Buy Local.'"

    Seacoast Local is a business-led, grassroots non-profit that encourages people to "think local first" when it comes to their money and their time.
